The Child Jesus, House of Mercy – Bethlehem
Next Sunday, December 3rd, we will begin a new liturgical year with the beginning of the Advent season. The Church, namely, proposes to us a time of preparation to receive the birth of Our Savior and Redeemer with a clean and pure heart. An old tradition, is to assemble the Advent wreath with 4 or 5 purple candles and a white candle, signifying the 4 Sundays that this preparation time lasts. Each Sunday one of the candles is lit, in this way the first candle begins to shine from the first Sunday of Advent. At the beginning of the second Sunday, the second candle is lit, while the first one is already being consumed; then the third candle for the third Sunday of Advent and finally the last candle, which is white, and very close to Christmas. The Sisters in Aleppo, attentive to this tradition, made several Advent wreathes with the women of the Cathedral. These crowns will be given to each family of the Cathedral, with a small pamphlet, where the meaning of the wreath and a prayer to better live the Advent season and prepare for Christmas, are explained.
